Rocky Mountain Elk at the DASH Ranch

The Rocky Mountain Elk herd continues to increase in the Northeastern hunt zone.  The DASH Ranch is unique in that a good number of trophy bulls start to gather their harems in this area for breeding during the fall rut between late August and November.

Elk season starts mid-September, so if you are fortunate enough to draw an elk tag for elk hunt numbers 304 or 305 Northeastern CA, give Dave a call at 530.945.2112

Deer Season

Deer Season 2013 was a successful season despite the warmer than normal temperatures. We had an inch of rain during opening weekend, but it stayed dry the rest of the season. The acorn crop was better than average, which brought down plenty of blacktail deer. All of our hunters scored bucks, here's a look at some of them.

The DASH Ranch sits within the Deer Hunting Zone C. We also offer Rocky Mountain Elk hunts--for that we sit in hunt area 305 Northeastern CA Bull and 304 Northeastern CA Antlerless. pig, turkey, and blacktail deer hunts on the property. If you are interested in booking a hunt, give Dave a call at 530.941.2112 or visit the website.

Ray, who has shot some trophy blacktail bucks here, was on the hunt for one that could top his last few kills. After turning down a number tremendous blacktails, that most guys would think you're out of your mind to pass up, at the last hour of his hunt he had to settle for this "pepperoni buck." (His girlfriend requested pepperoni sticks, so he had to return with something.)

Some of Our Fall Blacktail Deer Hunts

What an unusual deer season we had this year; I can't remember it ever being so hot. We had 100 degree days and deer still in velvet. The oak trees were loaded with acorns, but none were dropping. Mother nature seemed to be about two or three weeks behind schedule. But, despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, all our hunters (including the four seen below) got what they came for.

Gordon
The first hunter of the season was Gordon from Sparks, Nevada. He stuck it out through the blaze and scored a nice 3x3 buck that barely had the velvet scraped off.

Our next hunter to brave the heat was Curtis from the Northern California coast. Curtis dropped a nice 4x3 buck seen below.

Then we had Ray back, from San Francisco, who whacked another big 4x4 buck this year. He's been on a roll the past few years-- always good to have him up.

And to finish off the season, Sal returned once again. He bagged a heavy-horned 4x4 that also still had some velvet on its rack. Great work.

Sal

Congratulations to all our hunters this year for sticking it out in the unseasonably hot conditions and keeping our 100% success rate intact. Excellent work, guys.

Spring Turkey & Pig Hunts

It's been a while since our last update--things have been busy at the DASH Ranch--but it's finally here: our Spring 2012 Pig and Turkey hunt update. We want to make sure all our hunters get the recognition they deserve.

Spring 2012 was a good pig and turkey season for all our hunters.

At the beginning of April we had Skip and Chris, a father and son from Southern California's Laguna Hills, join us for a hunt, as you can see, they scored a great bird.

Then, we had Paul from Reno get two enormous Rio Grande Turkeys during his 2-day hunt. If you look close, you can see that the first bird has a much coveted double beard. Great job, Paul.

Then, toward the end of April Burl and Ken came down from Springfield, Oregon for a 2-day Turkey/Pig Combo Hunt. They each got what they came for.

We had to track down Ken's hog in a brushy draw; it took some effort getting it out, but as you can tell it was worth the effort for this big boar.

Great job to all of our Spring hunters! It was great having you all here this year.

If you have any questions or are interested in a Blacktail Deer, Rocky Mountain Elk, Rio Grande Turkey, California Valley Quail or Wild Boar hunt for the upcoming season, check out our website for hunt offers and prices, or call Dave at: 530.941.2112.

Fall Deer Season Successes

Well, we just finished another great hunting season with 100% success on all our blacktail deer hunts. We had to work harder for our big bucks this year because of the unusually warm weather. Now that the weather has finally turned cold, we are gearing up for what looks to be the makings of a good pig season, so now is the time to book your pig hunt. Congratulations to all our deer hunters. We look forward to seeing you again--and, of course, we welcome any new hunters next season. Check our website for rates or call Dave at 530-941-2112.

Proud Father

April was a good hunting month at the ranch: it began and ended with hunting success. We were happy to have one of Oregon's top fishing guides, Bob Stockdall, and his son, Kyle, join us in the last weekend of the month for a pig hunt. At only 14 years old, Kyle made his father proud by keeping his cool and getting his first pig, pictured above. Congratulations Kyle, that's a great looking hog!

On a different note, deer season is approaching and hunts are booking up fast. We allow a maximum of six hunts per deer season and have only two spots left--which means you should get your tag now. The Dash Ranch was recently listed by Fish and Game as Hunt Zone C-3, which requires a Premium Deer Tag. You can get more information and enter your name for the Premium Deer Tag lottery, by clicking HERE. We've heard through the grapevine that it should be fairly easy to attain a tag this year...but you still have to get your name in!

Good luck and happy hunting...
